New Bishop Promoter for AOS USA

Bishop Boland Welcome onboard to Bishop J. Kevin Boland who was appointed bishop promoter of AOS USA in Spring 2008

Currently bishop of the diocese of Savannah, Georgia, he has served on various committees of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and is currently a member of the Subcommittee on the Pastoral Care of Migrants, Refugees and Travellers.

The port of Savannah ranks among the top 20 ports in the USA. The diocese of Savannah already has an active ministry to the People of the Sea. In his new role, Bishop Boland will oversee some 81 AOS USA port chaplains and their pastoral teams. He will also guide the Cruise Ship Priest Program which includes some 645 members.

Praising the appointment, Cardinal Renato Raffaele Martino, President of the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People, said:

"Bishop Boland’s experience with the maritime ministry will be most useful in helping him to carry out successfully his mandate"
