Prayers for seafarers & fishers, and
for those who care for the people of the sea
For all who go to sea
Bless, O Lord all who sail in ships
preserve them for yourself
bless all who serve them
and lead us all into your Kingdom
through Jesus Christ. Our Lord. Amen.
For seafarers
Lord, Ruler over waves and sea, keep your blessed hand
over all seafarers. Give me the strength to lead a Christian
life aboard our ship. I do not want to disappoint anyone who
may expect help from me aboard. Keep my family at home in
your care. Even when far away from them for long, let me
always be attached to them. Help me and all seafarers to
keep on the right course always, and to reach the safe port
of heaven. Amen
On leaving port
Be with us, O Lord, on this voyage, to cheer us and keep
us safe in all dangers. Let nothing afloat or on shore cut
us off from you. May we please you in everything we do.
Bless all on board, whatever their responsibility. Enable
every man to do his duty. Help us to be good shipmates and
bring us back again in safety to our homes, and those who
long for our return, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Before going on watch
Loving Father I thank you taking care of me during these
past hours and for the gift of refreshing sleep. Help me
during the coming watch to love and serve you in work well
done. Show me what is right and what I ought to do, and give
me the will and strength to do it. I commit to your fatherly
care all my family, relations and friends. Keep us in
safety, though we are far apart. Unite us in loyalty and
love to one another and to you, through Jesus Christ our
Lord. Amen.
Daily prayer
O Lord, support us all the day long of this troublesome
life,
until the shadows lengthen and evening comes,
the busy world is still, the fever of life over, and our
work done.
Then Lord, in your mercy, grant us a safe haven,
a holy rest, a peace at the last,
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Evening prayer
Watch dear Lord,
over those who wake or work or weep tonight,
and give your angels charge over those who sleep.
Tend the sick, O Lord Christ:
rest your weary ones;
bless your dying ones:
pity your afflicted ones;
shield your joyous ones.
And do all this for your love's sake. Amen
Prayer of generosity
Lord teach me to be generous,
teach me to serve you as you deserve to be served,
to give and not to count the cost,
to fight and not to heed the wounds,
to toil and not to seek for rest,
to labour and not to ask for any reward,
except to know that I am doing Your Holy will. Amen

A Husband's prayer
O God, who gave marriage for a blessing to mankind, bless
my wife and me, and unite us in the bond of true Christian
love. Help us both to resist all temptations to sin that
would spoil our trust. Enable us to be loyal to each other
during all our separations. Strengthen us to keep the vows
we made when we were made man and wife, through Jesus
Christ, our Lord. Amen.
A Father's prayer
O Father of all, make me a good father to my family. Give
my wife all the help she needs to bear the double burden
when I am at sea. Let my leaves be times of happiness and
opportunities for the renewal of love between each of us, my
wife and me ad our children….(name the loved ones) As long
as I go out to sea may it be my constant joy to return home
to those whom you have given me for my own, through Jesus
Christ, our Lord. Amen.
A Seafarer's prayer
O God, I ask you to take me into your care and protection
along with all those who sail in ships. Make me alert and
wise in my duties. Make me faithful in the time of routine,
and prompt to decide and courageous to act in any time of
crisis. Protect me in the dangers and the perils of the sea;
and even in the storm grant that there may be peace and calm
within my heart. When I am far from home and far from loved
ones and far from the country which I know, help me to be
quite sure that, wherever I am, I can never drift beyond
your love and care. Take care of my loved ones in the days
and weeks and months when I am separated from them, some
times with half the world between them and me. Keep me true
to them and keep them true to me, and every time that we
have to part, bring us together in safety and in loyalty
again. This I ask for your love's sake. Amen. |
